From the cold to a warm start: What Everest taught me about Basecamp 4G
Years ago I walked to Everest Base Camp with my brother. It was a chapter of my life, and I have grown from it. I do not climb for a living and I am not chasing summits now. What stayed with me is what the cold taught me, and it is the reason Basecamp 4G exists.
The cold
I rented my gear in Nepal, and for days I was sure I was in the wrong gear. The altitude was hard. Every step was one more argument with the voice that said I could not do it. At some point I told myself to stop complaining and keep going. The gear was never the problem.
You are always going to be in the wrong gear. You move forward anyway.
One step at a time
I narrowed my eyes to the boots of the Sherpa in front of me. That was the whole plan. Not the summit, just the next step. I had planned the route for months, and the mountain did not care about my plan. I had to let go and trust the people around me.
Coming back to warmth
The best part of each day was the tea house. Layers on, a bowl of noodles, a warm room after hours of cold. Nothing fancy. It felt like a gift because I had earned the rest.
That is the feeling I wanted guests to find at the end of their own long day.
Start fresh
Everest helped me rise. When I came home I wanted a place built for what comes next: focus, good sleep, a real desk, a kitchen to refuel in. A launchpad near the Galleria in Houston, with two workstations, an ultrawide monitor, an iMac and ergonomic chairs.
Whatever cold you are walking out of, a business trip, a long project or a hard season, you arrive to warmth and you start fresh.
Book your stay
Pick your nights on the calendar at Basecamp 4G and send the request from the page. You write to the people who run it.
